Sometimes You Just Need To Rest

5 Dec

I have posted information before about the preponderance of dogs running loose in some Ecuadorian towns.  Some are owned and let loose to run about during the day; others are homeless strays.  For the most part they do not bother people other than littering the sidewalk with their defecation or their resting bodies which they sprawl everywhere during the heat of the day.  I mean everywhere: shady or sunny sidewalks, under vehicles, in doorways, etc.  This laissez-faire dogdom took on a new experience for us when we visited a small town this past Saturday.

Sometimes you just need to rest, no matter where you find yourself, as the little pooch below demonstrated.  At first we thought he must be dead or at least injured, so we walked closer to discover that he was deep in la-la land, snoozing away.  Although it was a major street along the town’s parque or town square, it was not very busy.  However, there was a large wedding at the time and there was a continuous stream of cars looking for parking spaces along the street, but it did not bother the sleeping doggie.

Let sleeping dogs lie.

Then there are the less than friendly types who, fortunately, are kept where they belong: behind sturdy fences.  This trio of sheep dogs were barking their heads off at a bicyclist and his German Shepherd who had the nerve to stop in front of their yard.  Look at those teeth and notice the purple dye around the snouts.  Not sure why it was there unless it was for identification if they ran off.

Three nasty sheep dogs guarding their turf.
